To Seek the Stars
I’m going to start stealing experience points.
Raegar: ill stop
Raegar: he said subtly..
Raegar: I believe we were exploring a crypt
You were exploring a crypt.
Raegar: and had just dispatched some skeletons
Raegar: and I was hurt.
You had just dispatched a number of very annoying skeletons.
YOU WERE INJURED!
Raegar: “They satbbed me in my fleshy bits…”
William is in bad shape as well.
…worse than you are, actually.
Shae Vanderin: “Weve actually aquired quite a bit so far Raegar, we could pull out and come back after you both receive some healing and rest.”
do I have a DMG in this room…
no.. its in my bag.. sigh.. brb..
Raegar: “I’m not sure.. We could.”
Shae Vanderin: “Why dont I stay here with the work team while you and William head back to Ashby for treatment. Ill wait for you to return and then we can proceed.”
Raegar: “The work team is working on the tomb we already cleared out.”
Nick (Shae Vanderin): are they?
Raegar: with the guards.
yeah, the work team is at the cleared crypt – you’re here to clear this one while they’re busy with the last.
Nick (Shae Vanderin): you are right I just found it.
Raegar: NONE MAY QUESTION THE DAVE
Raegar: ‘Cept like.. people..
Shae Vanderin: As far as this crypt goes, which obvious exits did we not explore yet?
Raegar: when im wrong..
Raegar: we just got here nick
you haven’t actually explored much of anything.
Raegar: weve only explored on square room and a corridor
You’re in the main room.. you have 3 corridors.. you started down the first, opened two sarcophagi in the floor
Shae Vanderin: Right.
and then got attacked from the room at the end of the hall.
Shae Vanderin: did you give us xp from last game btw?
minotaur, and gnomish pervert
no I did not, thats why I needed my DMG
Raegar: no, he didn’ae
Raegar: why did i lose 200 xp..
GM: I haven’t removed anything
Shae Vanderin: “Then why not rest here in the square room. We will continue once you recover a bit.”
Raegar: musta been me by accident
oh jesus christ.
Shae, Raegar, Las, William… am I forgetting anyone?
Shae Vanderin: what is req for lev 5, 20k?
haven’t a clue
I’ll let you know as soon as adobe un-freezes and I can look at my PDF again..
I wonder if I can open a second copy of FG2….
In any case, 2,000 xp, did that, okay, grand.
Shae Vanderin: Rest for 24 hours. I will attempt to tie my hemp rope across the hallway leading into the square room with either end having swords attached to it. In essence trying to make a crude alarm trap vs uningelligent creatures.
You have.. 3 corridors exiting the room you’re in.
None of them are secure.
Raegar: “We shouldnt be resting here.”
And there’s not really anything to tie your ropes to.
Raegar: I will try to sneak into the room at the end of corridor n.1
Raegar: look ‘round
Sure. Square room, 30×20, 3 pedastals, each big enough for a pair of people to stand on.
There’s a door at the far side.
Meaning, real door.
none of this empty doorway crap.
Big honkin’ wood door.
double, no less.
Raegar: investigate the pedestals
Footprints, like there were two people standing on each one, but they got off recently.
you can tell cos there’s no dust where they were standing.
Raegar: thats what i thought..
Raegar: how many skeletons did we fight?
Raegar: back to the party
Shae Vanderin: “What did you see?”
Raegar: “Nothing remarkable, just pedestals.”
Raegar: “Big door though..”
Raegar: “What do we want to do?”
Raegar: “William and I cant take another fight like the last one.”
Shae Vanderin: “Hmm.”
Raegar: “I doubt just resting for a few hours will do the trick.”
Shae Vanderin: “We could leave and seal the entrance, rest up and then return.”
Lasariel: “Why bother sealing the entrance? It was sealed when we got here – the skeletons within still managed to open it on their own.”
Shae Vanderin: “Only to keep whatever is in here from leaving.”
Shae Vanderin: “By seal I mean do so in a way that they could not break out.”
She nods, slowly, before settling down to sit on the stairs leading back up.
Raegar: “We.. Don’t have the material to do any of that..”
Shae Vanderin: “It would take time, but simple dirt would do the trick if piled high enough.”
Shae Vanderin: “My only concern is that now that whatever is inside might leave.”
Raegar: “Right, well, would you like to oversee that while we go and rest in town then?”
Shae Vanderin: and what shae really means is, “And take any treasure with it.”
Shae Vanderin nods.
…the DM feels he should point something out…
Shae Vanderin: “Wait, how long will that be?”
Lasariel: “That depends.. are we waiting for you to finish, or Raegar and William to heal?”
Shae Vanderin: “The latter.”
Lasariel: “Given Hoxton and at least one cleric in Ashby, we’d probably be able to turn around as soon as we got there, no?”
Shae Vanderin: How long a walk was it?
I haven’t a clue.
A day and a bit, iirc?
Raegar: “…Its a joke Shae.”
Raegar: “Theres 4 of us here.”
Raegar: “3 of us are wounded.”
Lasariel: “Two, but I’m not playing in the dirt.”
Shae Vanderin: “Well lets all return then, that was my original idea.”
Lasariel: “Tell you what, if you’re so worried about them getting out, I’ll stay upstairs and keep an eye on the entrance.”
Raegar: “Couldn’t you do anything about our wounds Lasariel?”
Raegar: “That would be entirely shorter.”
Lasariel sighs, “Probably. It’ll still take time, but you’re right – a question of camping here for the night or going back to Ashby.”
Raegar: “Bah, lets head back to town.”
Raegar: back toton!
Unless anyone objects, she stays behind. When you leave, she’s drawing on the stairs with chalk.
As estimated, you get to Ashby after a day’s hike, are met by Hoxton and Hansen, are healed, and are able to turn around.
Unless you want to do anything in Ashby.
Shae Vanderin: Regather supplies.
Shae Vanderin: Ask if Hansen can create holy water.
Shae Vanderin: If so ask him if we could take some.
he hands over four bottles.
Shae Vanderin: Give 2 to Raegar.
What is Shae’s position on Horus?
Shae Vanderin: None really.
Shae Vanderin: She thinks her followers are looneys.
Shae Vanderin: Horus’s that is
Shae Vanderin: sorry its a he right.
Shae Vanderin: But she has no faith in him.
Shae Vanderin: Thats it, head back.
You head back out.
Shae Vanderin: Look for Las.
She’s parked inside the entrance to the crypt.
Scribbling in a book.
Shae Vanderin: “Anything interesting happen while we were gone?”
Lasariel: “That’s an excellent question.”
Lasariel: “I did hear some movement down there last night, but it went away after whatever-it-was found out it couldn’t get up the stairs.”
Shae Vanderin: “One of your wards then? Good.”
Raegar: “Lets do this..”
Shae Vanderin nods.
She flips the book closed and it vanishes.
Shae Vanderin: Light my lantern but stay well behind Raegar so he can scout."
William: “You know, I used to think being a highwayman was dangerous.”
William: “This? This is terrifying.”
You descend the steps…
Raegar: “You know I hunt these things for sport, right?”
Shae Vanderin: “Think of the treasure that could be in these long forgotten crypts William.”
Raegar: “I’ll teach you..”
Lasariel: “As long as you don’t decide to hunt my dog if you can’t find any others…”
Raegar: “I like your dog, Lasariel.”
William: “Treasure’s no good if’n you can’t spend it.”
Shae Vanderin: “Fortune favors the bold.”
Raegar, as you step over a line of chalk drawn over the floor, there is an audible crackling sort’ve sound.
Lasariel: “No more ward.. not that it’d help us anyway, once we’re past it.”
You find yourselves back in the square entry-room. Three corridors, one that you’ve started exploring, two you haven’t.
Raegar: Look down corridor n.2
Sarcophagi in the floor.
Doorway at the far end.
Again, 15 feet wide.
Raegar: “What do we want to do?”
Raegar: “Finish the corridor we’ve started or clear out the other two before dealing with the door?”
Shae Vanderin: “I vote we clear the other 2.”
Shae Vanderin: “One step at a time before going deeper in.”
Nick (Shae Vanderin): also guy you are going to hate me here but I completely forgot I have to leave soon. It completely slipped my mind.
Kiergath: Define soon.
Nick (Shae Vanderin): I could stay for another 15 mins. My phone just rang reminding me that I had to be somewhere.
Righto, gonna break here then.
Since no matter which way you go, combat.
Nick (Shae Vanderin): I feel really bad guys this is fucked up. And I wanted to continue. Stupid brain.
And you’re out for thursday, ya?
Nick (Shae Vanderin): ya..
Nick (Shae Vanderin): this whole week is fucked up
Then it appears we’re done til’ next tues, since I doubt I’ll get enough people to show up thurs to go without you :P
Nick (Shae Vanderin): if you do by all means continue.
given we’re in generic randomly generated dungeon crawl mode, though, if I do, I’ll keep going.
this is hardly a story quest.
( that’s right, this campaign comes with RANDOM INSTANCE GENERATION! )
Raegar: alrighty thehn
Nick (Shae Vanderin): Ok. I apologize again.
have I mentioned not to randomly go back into “cleared” dungeons expecting them to be empty?
yeah, I did – go re-read sessions with Hoxton and your druid.
good thing you sent guards with that work party.
Nick (Shae Vanderin): lol ya
Nick (Shae Vanderin): Can we say that we took the treasure back with us when we returned to Ashby?
Nick (Shae Vanderin): ok I think the wiki has what we had before so I can edit it and add it when I get back.
Nick (Shae Vanderin): If I somehow get back early Ill hit you guys up.
